Covid-19 Booster Vaccine:

Recommended Groups for the autumn covid-19 booster programme:

  1. Those age 60 years or older.

  2. Those aged 18- 59 years living in long term care facilities for older adults.

  3. Those aged 6 months to 59 years with:

    * Immunocompromised associated with a suboptimal response to vaccination

    *Medical conditions associated with a higher risk of COVID-19 hospitalisation, severe disease or death

  1. Health and care workers.

  2. Pregnant adolescence and adults.

Flu Vaccine:

Influenza (flu) is a very infectious illness caused by the flu virus. The virus infects the airways and the lungs. Flu circulates in the community during the flu season. The flu season usually starts at the beginning of October and lasts until the end of April.

The HSE recommend the flu vaccine for:

  • People aged 60 years and over

  • Children aged 2-17 years

  • Pregnant women

  • People (adults and children) with long-term medical conditions such as diabetes, chronic heart conditions, liver conditions, kidney conditions and chronic lung disease including COPD, or neurological diseases

  •  People with cancer

  • People on long-term aspirin treatment

  •  People whose immune system is impaired due to disease or treatment

  •  People who are obese who have a body mass index (BMI) of over 40

  •  People with Down syndrome

  • Residents of nursing homes and other long-stay institutions

  •  Healthcare workers

  • Carers

  • People who live in the same house as someone who is at risk of flu because of a medical condition

  • People with regular close contact with poultry, water fowl or pigs.

Pneumococcal Vaccine

The pneumococcal vaccine is also known as the pneumonia vaccine. It protects against pneumococcal disease. You should get the pneumococcal vaccine if you are:

  • age 65 and over

  • aged 2 or over and at higher risk of getting seriously ill.

Shingrix Vaccine

Shingrix is a vaccine that helps to protect adults against shingles (herpes zoster) and post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN), the long-lasting nerve pain that follows shingles.

Shingrix is given to:

  • adults 50 years and above;

  • adults 18 years and above who are at increased risk of shingles.

Shingrix cannot be used to prevent chickenpox (varicella).

RSV Vaccine

RSV or respiratory syncytial virus, is a common and contagious virus that can cause severe infections that can lead to hospitisation in adults +60years of age and adults with underlying conditions such as :

  • COPD

  • Chronic Heart Failure

  • Chronic Kidney Disease

  • Diabetes
